Firefox 3.5 – The nexGadget Review

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Mozilla releases their latest Internet Browser in hopes to keep up with Safari’s speed. The new browser does offer quite a few new features, but first lets take a look at the dramatic improvements of Firefox 3.5.

More than twice as fast as Firefox 3:

ff35speedFirefox seems to finally be catching up in the speed ranks, I have noticed dramatic improvements with content loading and browsing between multiple tabs. The image gives you a gist of how Mozilla feels about their speed improvements.

Still seeing memory issues with 3.5 though:

Tear Away Tabs:

Now with the ability to tear away a tab from your current window and drop it into a new window or an existing window with tabs. You can pretty much drag the Tab anywhere; to the desktop or outside of the current window will open the tab in a new window. Dragging it to your bookmark toolbar will create a bookmark to that tab. I personally have been waiting for a feature like this for awhile now – Fast, sleek, and smooth.

Private Browsing:

Firefox finally catches up to Safari on this one.

Advanced Bookmarking:

3.5 offers a new bookmarking feature which is actually pretty slick for those who are too lazy to find the bookmark. Simply tag the bookmark with a short keyword then get to the bookmark by typing just that keyword or tag.

Smart Folders:

Great new feature for those constantly tracking updates on several sites. Now you can create and save searches into folders that are then automatically  updated as you add sites to your bookmarks and history.

  1. Open the Library by selecting the “Organize Bookmarks” option from the Bookmarks menu.
  2. Enter your search terms in the search box.
  3. Click the Save button to create a Smart Folder.
