It seems that Verizon is already offering the Android 2.1 update (with Sense UI) to Droid Eris owners Over-The-Air (OTA), although only a handful of folks have claimed to have received it. Installing the update is pretty problematic though, since many reports of complete device wipes have already filtered through alongside Google account synchronization issues. As always, the golden rule of thumb would be to backup all of your data before you make any firmware update as you never know when Murphy might strike.
