Research and advisory company Gartner recently rolled out its worldwide cellphone sales report for the past year, where the smartphone category was the fastest growing one, seling 53.8 million units in the last quarter, with Symbian remaining at the top with its 46.9% of market share while RIM hit 19.9% from 16.6%. The iPhone OS nearly doubled its market share though at 14.4%, while Android made significant gains to touch 3.9% from just 0.5% the year before. Windows Mobile is a big loser, stooping to 8.7% from 11.8%. Perhaps Microsoft’s fortunes will change with the introduction of Windows Phone 7.
