If you doubted Samsung’s commitment to Google’s Android operating system, the latest news that Samsung managed to acquire the Android trademark for mobile hardware in Korea should clear any doubts that you had. It seems that Korea has two separate trademark systems for hardware and software. So while it doesn’t affect Google’s Android OS, Samsung’s trademark deal means that other manufacturers can’t release Android-branded devices, regardless of whether it’s a mobile phone, PMP, PDA, GPS unit or anything, in the Korean market. Considering that competitors such as LG also are busy working on Android-powered devices, this is certainly going to create some tension in the mobile scene over in Korea.
