Forget about those bigwig auto manufacturers in Japan and Detroit – trust a group of students to come up with an eco car prototype that is able to hit a whopping 2,487.5 miles on a gallon (MPG) of fuel – now that’s economy! A team from Laval University in Quebec, Canada picked up the Grand Prize at this year’s Shell Eco-Marathon yet again, improving on their effort last year which clocked up 2,757.1 MPG. Of course, it will take a long time before such prototypes are viable enough to function like a standard vehicle you see on the road, but we would gladly take 500MPG if it could carry four adults comfortably with room to spare in the boot for some baggage.
