Zero Taxis to hit Tokyo this Thursday

Zero-taku (also known as Zero-taxis for those who speak English), cabs which produce no carbon emissions because it is electric-driven, will start entering service at JR Tokyo Station’s Marunouchi South exit after an inauguration ceremony this Thursday. Basically, these are Mitsubishi. i-MiEV electric cars which fall under the banner of Japanese cab operator Hinomaru Limousine, and are capable of moving about for 160 kilometers on a fully charged battery. The first 2 kilometers will cost you $7.80, which is roughly similar to regular taxis. Looks like you can now take a cab without feeling too guilty about polluting the earth, eh?
