WiMAX 2 Coming Later This Year

WiMAX 2 Coming Later This Year

We all love fast connections and the faster they go, the happier we are. If you’re like us, then you’ll love the news that the WiMAX Collaboration Initiative has issued a statement on the progress of the upcoming WiMAX 2 802.16m standard. With the backing of industry giants such as Intel, Motorola, Samsung, beceem and ZTE, the group is hoping to have the air interface standard definition completed in the 2nd half of 2010. In case you were wondering, the prediction is that WiMAX 2 speeds will offer peak download rates up to 300 Mbps, more than double the peak theoretical speeds of the current 802.16e WiMAX standard. Additional good news comes in the form that the new tech will be backwards compatible with original WiMAX networks. Are you looking forward to faster WiMAX speeds, or are the current WiMAX and 3G networks fast enough to keep you satisfied?

Press release.
