Intel Tweaks Android

Intel Tweaks Android

The open nature of Google’s Android OS allows anybody to tweak the operating system as they please, which does make some rather interesting things happen every now and then. While Android was originally targeted at mobile processors based on the ARM architecture, it is certainly possible to recompile it for a new processor instruction set. We have seen Android running on Intel’s X86 architecture before, Intel has decided to get directly involved with Android. The chip giant has tweaked Android to get it running on Atom-based smartphones. This will provide a reference design for mobile phone manufacturers to adopt Intel’s Atom processors into smartphones, possibly giving processors like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon a good run for its money at some point. Are you looking forward to an Atom-powered mobile phone (the LG GW990 being the most famous one – check the video)? On the laptop front, Acer had used Android to its Atom-powered Netbooks last year.
