Leaked iPhone 4G Was A Near-final Prototype

The recently leaked iPhone 4G has been all over the news, and now it seems that the lost unit was actually a very late-stage model, which means that it’s more or less what the final product will be like. When the phone was dissected, the label N90_DVT_GE4X_0493 was discovered. Recent information indicates that “N90” was the codename for the next phone, and DVT stood for “Design Verification Test unit”, which is something that is made very late into development in order to make sure that the final design works. While many folks are laughing at how Apple could allow such a secret device be let loose into the wild, it’s worth noting that cell phones need to be tested, especially in the open and in different locations. There’s no point having the phone work flawlessly in Apple’s campus and yet have it look like an expensive paperweight in your home.
