Ubisoft’s Controversial DRM Hacked

Ubisoft's Controversial DRM Hacked

If you’re a gamer that purchases original non-pirated games (like we all should), then you’re probably familiar with the troublesome DRM (digital rights management) features that are stuffed into games in order to circumvent piracy. Ubisoft’s always-on DRM solution, the Online Services Network, has been criticized by many folks, as it requires gamers to have a constant connection to the Internet in order to play their games. Now hackers have managed to circumvent the DRM in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 2 game, allowing users to enjoy the game without having to worry about the DRM mechanism. Hacks to get around Ubisoft’s DRM servers were available before this, but they used a less efficient way to do it. Of course, we’re not advocating piracy, but it’ll be interesting if there will be some middle ground that game developers will be able to work out with gamers. After all, everybody just want to enjoy the game, right?

More interesting than the score, however, is the connection with a Qualcomm Adreno 225 GPU, which -- assuming it truly is legit -- strongly implies the presence of a powerful Snapdragon S4 sitting inside the Ville's engine compartment. This tallies… »

While the slate's best feature might be Google's 4.0 treat , ViewSonic's… »
