Skype Not Planning A Windows Phone 7 Client At The Moment

In what is probably a severe blow to Windows Phone 7’s credibility, Asia Pacific Vice President of Skype, Dan Neary, has confirmed that the VoIP giant is not developing a version of its Skype VoIP software for Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Phone 7 platform. This comes on the heels of Skype’s removal of its Windows Mobile client, apparently due to poor user experience. While Neary didn’t provide the exact reason why they’re not developing a Windows Phone 7 (WP7) version, it’s been speculated that it could be related to WP7’s tight integration with XNA and Silverlight for development. With all these challenges ahead of it, it’ll be interesting to see how WP7 deals with the challenge of Google’s Android and Apple’s iPhone OS.
