AT&T Offers Free Wi-Fi In New York City

Good news for AT&T subscribers who hang around Times Square often, as the carrier has confirmed that it would be launching its first-ever outdoor Wi-Fi hotspot in Times Square. The hotspot will give anybody with an iPhone or AT&T smartphone unlimited Internet use as part of this pilot project. It has been acknowledged that testing might expand to three cities in the future, but there wasn’t any mention of which cities specifically. The carrier has also confirmed that this move is an effort to offset the burden on AT&T’s 3G service in NYC, which even after upgrades is still oversaturated by the data demands of the iPhone. Such a move comes a good two weeks before Apple is expected to unveil its next-generation iPhone 4G, and if that were to spur iPhone sales, the Wi-Fi hotspot would have come in the nick of time.

More interesting than the score, however, is the connection with a Qualcomm Adreno 225 GPU, which -- assuming it truly is legit -- strongly implies the presence of a powerful Snapdragon S4 sitting inside the Ville's engine compartment. This tallies… »

While the slate's best feature might be Google's 4.0 treat , ViewSonic's… »
