Acer LumiRead enters the ebook reader fray

Acer’s latest release for today would be its LumiRead ebook reader, where this device will see Acer’s clear.fi solution implemented into a DLNA-compliant device that lets one access Acer clear.fi and share contents like ebooks and audio-books across multiple compatible devices. Just in case you run out of things to read, you can always hook up via Wi-Fi or 3G connectivity to download the latest bestseller. Acer has already come to an agreement with Barnes & Noble in the US, Libri.de of Germany and Founder in China to offer localized contents in English, Chinese and German. There are also other agreements in the works to cater to French and Italian readers, but those will need to be formalized first. As for its hardware, the Acer LumiRead sports a 6″ non-glare, no backlit e-Ink display which offers a close paper-like reading experience despite being under bright sunlight. Its 2GB of internal memory can be further expanded using a microSD memory card, while a built-in ISBN scanner lets you scan ISBN codes to create your very own wish-list as well as reference on supported online libraries and book stores. A QWERTY keyboard makes it a whole lot easier to browse the Web while searching for relevant information, and with its multiple popular file format support, you won’t run out of reading material anytime soon. Will Acer’s presence be a hindrance or a boost to the ebook reader market? [Press Release]
