Lenovo Ditches Skylight OS In Favor Of Android For Its Skylight Smartbook And U1 Tablet

Looks like Lenovo has further affirmed its support for Google’s Android OS. While the company was originally planning to use an in-house version of Linux for its Skylight smartbook and IdeaPad U1 detachable tablet, dubbed the Skylight OS, a decision has been made to drop that and switch to Google’s Android OS. This is probably a win for consumers as well, since Android has been riding a huge wave of momentum this year, and applications that support Android are increasingly common. Of course, the downside of this is that the release date of the Skylight has been pushed back to July, possibly due to the additional testing that needs to be done when using a different operating system. With many users out there warming up to tablet devices, especially Apple’s iPad, it’ll be interesting to see how well received the Skylight and IdeaPad will be when they’re finally released.
