Available worldwide in July and priced at under $300, the HP Mini 100e will be competing with the Intel Classmate Series (the Classmate PC E10 ($399) and the Classmate PC NL2 Convertible ($499) – reference designs) in the “notebook for kids” category. The exact pricing will be set on per deal basis and no information on potential partnerships with educational institutions or governments could be shared by HP at the time of publishing.
The HP Mini features an Intel Atom N455 processor, an Intel NM10 Express chipset, Wi-Fi certified WLAN connectivity,an integrated worldwide modem compatible in all countries with the V.92 standard, a 10.1 inch LED-backlit WSVGA display (1024×600) and a 92% of full size, spill-resistant keyboard and all this for only 3.19 pounds (1.45 kg).
Other specifications include: headphone and MIC ports, a VGA webcam, 1 GB DDR3 memory, 3 or 6 cell battery options, On the software side, the clamshell notebook offers Windows XP Home, Windows 7 Starter or SuSE Linux (SLED 11) operating systems and a Microsoft’s applications suite dedicated to education, productivity and security including:
- For education: Microsoft Math, Microsoft Reader, Microsoft Live Movie Maker and Microsoft Learning Essentials
- For productivity: Microsoft Office 2010 Starter, Evernote, PDF Complete and Browser plug-ins
- For security: Microsoft Security Essentials
