This is Boeing\’s new Crew Space Transportation-100 spacecraft. It’s miles identical to Apollo\’s Command Module but, rather than just three astronauts, it’ll carry up to seven astronauts or astroturists. The destination: Commercial space stations (and the ISS).
The CST-100 is compatible with several rockets, including Delta IV, Atlas V, and SpaceX\’s recently launched Falcon 9. In line with Boeing, the usage of this rockets for manned spaceflight can be easy as a result of the spacecraft\’s pull abort system. The abort system may not be jettisoned from the capsule, and will probably be used for maneuvering in space.

The spacecraft can also be used by NASA to ferry astronauts to the ISS, but Boeing says that this won\’t be enough to support its development and production. In step with Boeing\’s Roger Kroner: \” There must be a couple of place to move. It truly is not viable if the single place is ISS.\” The opposite place will likely be Bob Bigelow\’s space hotel. Bigelow is not off course to build a commercial space station on the subsequent decade, using inflatable modules.
One of the most effective things in regards to the CST-100 is that it’s going to be reusable ten times, only requiring maintenance and a new heat shield.
No price ticket yet for the rocket ride or the stay at the distance station. [The Register]
