Choosing not to head down the Psystar route and sell its tablet pre-loaded with OS X, Axon will instead let customers hackintosh its Haptic tablet-selling it minus an OS. Load Windows, Linux or maybe OS X on it.
CrunchGear is claiming they’ve heard you’ll have the ability to pre-order the Haptic tablet this week. As it’s Friday already, they’ve got three days in my books. Axon told CrunchGear that the tablet may have an LED-backlit LCD measuring 10″ with 1024 x 600 pixels, but sadly it’ll be resistive. And come with a stylus.
From there, the specs improve-see the list here:
* 1.6GHz Atom N270 (other trims might be available)
* 10″ 1024×600 LED-backlit LCD
* Resistive touchscreen w/ built-in stylus
* 2 200-pin SO-DIMM slots (2GB standard)
* 2.5″ HDD bay (320GB standard)
* 1.3MP webcam
* Wi-Fi (A/B/G/N)
* 3G SIM slot (AT&T or Verizon)
* Built-in speaker
* 3x USB, Headphone, mic, ethernet, VGA ports, card reader
* On-screen keyboard and handwriting recognition
* Removable battery (3000mAh, ~3hrs)
* 0.9kg (just below 2lb)
Here’s the genuine kicker, though: it’s expected to cost $800, or $750 while you pre-order. Yes, about double the price of an iPad. True, you’ll be capable of load it with whichever OS you’d like (it’s compatible with Darwin OS, which Axon says ” will give you the freedom to run, along with Windows and Linux, any* Darwin OS” ), but on the other hand, that’s a loaaaad of money for the specs.
