WiMAX isn’t even remotely ubiquitous in these U.s.a., but that hasn’t stopped progress on its successor, the aptly named WiMAX 2.
In the near future, November perhaps, WiMAX 2 can be finalized as a typical, meaning-theoretically-its 1Gbps download speeds would become available when WiMAX 2 hardware is added to the network sometime in 2012.
A good distance off, to make certain, but something tells me there’s still some legwork to be done on the original so that it will keep everyone occupied and busy. [Computerworld via Engadget]
