Least Eco-Friendly Phone? Palm Pre Plus [Phones]

Phones from HTC, Palm, LG, Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung were put to the eco-friendly test by carrier O2, who found that the Palm Pre Plus and LG Etna are the worst models you’ll buy for the environmentally-inclined.

The manufacturers who participated inside the test apparently represent 93 per cent of the phones O2 sells within the UK, with Motorola and Apple conspicuous by their absence.

Unsurprisingly, it was the Elm handset from Sony Ericsson which was found to be one of the most eco-friendly, with Sony Ericsson making five of the end ten phones inside the list.

Over on the naughty list, it was the Palm Pre Plus and LG Etna which tied for least eco-friendly, with LG boasting the dubious claim of six phones not faring well in O2′s Eco Rating test.

Sure, this may be usual PR fluff that networks dream up in the course of the slow season, but accordingly there’s a real wish to find out about the repercussions of buying certain handsets. It’s something I’m commencing to take into consideration much more now (admittedly spurred on by Greenpeace’s annual eco findings ). [ O2 Eco Rating ]

It is the end of another era at NASA, although this one was perhaps more inevitable than others. Chief Information Officer Linda Cureton announced in a blog post over the weekend that the agency's last mainframe computer was shut down this month, marking an end to decades of room-filling computers. Needless to say, that last mainframe was considerably newer than that pictured above.… »
