Not all NASA gigs involve rockets and spacesuits. Zero-G motion sickness is a standard problem for astronauts, and someone has to discover the baggage o’ biliousness. Meet those intrepid scientists who make NASA’s fake vomit.
Here’s the description of the video from NASA’s Youtube channel :
After answering the question of the way the distance potty works, astronaut Mike Massimino now visits the Advanced Water Recovery Systems Development Facility at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Chemists had been working hard to develop a next-generation trash bag for future exploration, including testing different kinds of trash…and faux vomit.
And in the event you missed it, here’s the video of Massimino investigating the gap toilet :
Mike Massimino helps answer the single question he and other astronauts get asked regularly: ” How do you ‘go’ in space?” Mike catches up with STS-132 Mission Specialists Steve Bowen and Piers Sellers as they get some ” refreshers” on the usage of shuttle Atlantis’ ” Space Potty.” (Training includes an ” alignment camera.” )
