The awesome Kinect object scanning is missing from all incoming titles, in addition as of any hardware controller support. But fear not, because Kinect’s big honcho Kudo Tsunoda has some answers about this and more.
On object scanning, in an effort to assist you put real world objects into games, Tsunoda says that that is coming:
We saw somewhat of that at E3 last year, but it surely’s not stuff that we have got in any of the launch games at this time, and I feel we’re going to look so much more games start using that in addition as we go forward.
He also responded to a couple of the criticism, like the inability of buttons or the limited ability of the system to recognize hand gestures or small hands. Answering to the shortage of buttons, Tsunoda said that they’re not avoiding controllers. While the first generation of Kinect games won’t have controller support, future games may combine ” both controllers and Kinect.” You know, like holding a rifle in a First Person Shooter and in reality pulling a trigger as opposed to just moving your finger and mumbling ” pew pew!”
Tsunoda also mentioned that, as the technology evolves, it’s going to recuperate with little hands and hand gestures: ” You’re going to get more granular on what we are able to do. The closer you get to the sensor, you’ll be able to get a sexy good reading on a hand motion. Inspite of my hands you will get a decent read far-off.” [ Kinect via Joystiq ]
