The Unflattering Future Of favor: Spray On Clothes [Fashion]

The Unflattering Future Of favor: Spray On Clothes [Fashion] A new liquid mixture will allow people to literally spray clothes onto their body. Once the mix hits your body, it will become a thin layer of cloth that may be peeled off, washed, and re-worn. Unfortunately, it’s also skintight.

It’s sorta crazy to consider your future morning routine: wake up, shake the aerosol can and spray yourself silly to get dressed. Is that even possible? Yes that’s. Developed by Imperial College London and a corporation called Fabrican, the spray-on fabric is produced from short, cross linking fibers which might be combined with polymers, the fibers then cling together to form the cloth. Its kept in liquid form through a solvent which evaporates when the spray hits the skin.

So it totally works but why would someone have the desire to make this? Manel Torres, the designer behind the spray on clothes, says:

” After I first began this project I truly wanted to make a futuristic, seamless, quick and cozy material. In my quest to provide this sort of fabric, I finished up returning to the rules of the earliest textiles corresponding to felt, that have been also produced by taking fibers and finding a method of binding them together without needing to weave or stitch them”

And futuristic it’s! Some thing though, spray on clothes is a smart idea if we all gave the impression of swimsuit models but since we, er, don’t, it’d just make for a totally unflattering future. Imagine everyone wearing thin, skintight shirts and pants. Not a sexy sight. [ Wired ]
