Of the 136 fuel-efficient vehicles entered into the 2010 Progressive Insurance Automotive X-Prize, three 100 MPG contenders emerged victorious this week to share within the $10 million prize. These are their names:
The $5 million ” Mainstream class” winner was Edison2′s Very Light Car (VLC), seen above. The 830 lb. lightweight achieves 100MPG+ via its 40 horsepower motorcycle engine.
The $2.5 million Alternative Class-Tandem class winner was the brilliant yellow E-Tracer.
Lastly, the other Class winner was the Wave II, a batter-electric hybrid created by Li-Ion Motors. Congrats to all three and the 133 other competitors who competed in this hard, yet important competition. [ Big apple Times ]
