Gene Simmons . Once upon a time, he played bass and unrolled his tongue out for that brown paper bag of musical hurt that’s Kiss. Now, he just goes around saying stupid things like this:
Make certain your brand is protected. Make sure there aren’t any incursions. Be litigious. Sue everybody. Take their homes, their cars. Don’t let anybody cross that line. The music industry was asleep at the wheel, and didn’t have the balls to sue every fresh-faced, freckle-faced college kid who downloaded material. And so now we’re left with thousands of folk without jobs. There’s no industry.
Great. Sue first, ask later. a really perfect philosophy to head through business and life.
But no, Gene, piracy hasn’t destroyed the music industry. Bad shit, like 99% of the crap you vomited out back inside the 70s and 80s, has. And the market remains going. Go to Ars Technica to read a summary of Simmons’ spewing at the MIPCOM convention, in Cannes. It just gets better, in a foul form of way. [ Ars Technica ]
