The toxic red sludge spill in Hungary that killed four people Monday could take a year to wash up, authorities there said. Meanwhile, workers are still seeking to stop the spill from spreading to the Danube and Raba rivers.
So far, at the least seven towns were hit , and 7,000 Hungarians were directly laid low with the spill from an alumina plant. Four persons are dead and six are missing, with 120 injured thus far. The owner of the Ajkai Timfoldgyar plant said the sludge is not really hazardous, by EU standards. We’ll see how that statement holds up.
