Turns out Apple shipping the MacBook Air without Flash pre-installed wasn’t just a one-time thing. From here on out, every Mac that’s sold can be Flashless . That makes more of a press release than a Steve Jobs open letter ever could.
Apple spokesman Bill Evans gave word to Engadget that while previous generations of Macs have shipped with Adobe Flash , those days are officially over:
We’re happy to continue to support Flash on the Mac, and one of the best ways for users to always have the freshest and secure version is to download it directly from Adobe.
There are still some Macs being shipped that have Flash pre-installed, but everything that’s new won’t ship with the software.
Of course, it’s not a really difficult thing to move and download Flash for yourself. But Apple’s banking on enough of the web being HTML5 that its customers won’t ever must bother. [ Engadget , Image credit: Shirt.Woot ]
