BlackBerry users may need noticed that they are able to neither download the Kik Messenger app nor receive push notifications through it if they already have it on their devices. Here’s Research in Motion’s vague excuse and cause of the total mess:
RIM became acquainted with a variety of issues and customer concerns concerning the Kik app and service. Following discussions with Kik, the app was removed from BlackBerry App World on November 12. Upon further investigation, RIM concluded that Kik had breached contractual obligations. Based on the broad scope and seriousness of the failings and concerns, RIM terminated its agreements with Kik and withdrew RIM’s support for Kik’s service.
As any app quirks or flaws may be fixed by an update, I’d guess that the genuine trouble is that RIM got a little bit too nervous about Kik’s similarities to its own BBM service. [ BGR ]
