I spent my first 18 years in Australia, so know all too well how harsh the sun may be there-and how an app including SunSmart could stop the slew of lobster-faces walking around in summer.
The app comes from the Australian Cancer Council, sick of seeing over 1,850 people dying of skin cancer once a year. It’s free, and uses the GPS to offer daily weather forecasts, but more importantly the UV levels that is what causes skin cancer. Temperature and sun protection times are also included, so users is usually conscious of the safest time to depart the house.
I’m not suggesting Aussies must be prisoners of the sun, but somewhat free intelligence on the UV levels can go some distance in preserving their health. [ iTunes via Recombu ]
