Victor Pauca has a genetic disorder that makes his speech development slower than other kids. So his father, Paul Pauca, together with his students at Wake Forest, made an iPhone and iPad app that helps Victor speak. It’s rather inspirational.
The VerbalVictor app lets Paul-and other parents/caregivers-record phrases which might be played back when Victor presses the corresponding button. Because the $10 app uses familiar voices, and not on-the-fly generated robot voices, kids are more happy with using it to specific themselves.
VerbalVictor has to be out inside the App Store by next week. It truly is the type of thing that we’re going to determine more of-ingenious quality-of-live improvements-as mobile tech becomes more ubiquitous and strong. [ LA Times ]
