Italian terrestrial network Mediaset has launched what it claims is the area’s first 3DTV terrestrial broadcast system, but there’s a reasonably large catch-the system ” trickles” data to a collection-top-box hard disk drive inside the day, to bypass data bottlenecks.
The company’s 3VOD delivery system uses spare bandwidth throughout the broadcast multiplex, transmitting the giant amounts of information required for 3DTV files while someone for your household is watching grainy cartoons that leave a variety of room within the airwaves. It’s then stored and should pop-up on the EPG when able to be watched, glitch and lag free, from the hard disk.
Mediaset claims to have ” around 50″ (that is basically ” all” ) 3D films ready for watching. Provided that you’re not in a hurry. [ WSJ via Engadget ]
