Public benches are great. You get to chill, take it easy, and survey sights and sounds which may escape you otherwise. Also great: spiral staircases, privacy, and watching things from above. These elevated benches provide you with ALL THAT.
The benches, designed by Israeli Itay Ohaly, are floated halfway up streetlight poles, suspended and accessed by spiral staircases. How often do you get to climb a spiral staircase? Not nearly enough, I’d imagine!
Of course, there are some folks that would probably think that rather than offering privacy, sitting atop a street light would make one the subject of basically everyone’s scrutiny, but surely there are those for whom that’s an appealing prospect too. So elevated benches, I say, are an excellent idea all around. [ Designboom ]
