It was an important week for alternative energy as Inhabitat showcased quite a number green fuel innovations that cut costs while bringing clean energy to the leading edge. We checked out hydrogen ‘Micro Beads’ which could fuel cars for $1.50 per gallon, and we saw Michigan State University unveil a brand new shock wave engine that may triple fuel the efficiency of hybrid vehicles. XL Hybrids also got in at the action by releasing an add-on kit which can transform any gas-guzzler right into a hybrid, and Google made waves by announcing their investment in biofuels startup CoolPlanetBiofuels and adding EV charging stations to Google Maps. Finally, to round out or green automotive news this week we even have to offer a unique shout out to Artega, who introduced their hot new SE Electric Sports Car – we are able to already hear the honks and catcalls!
Off the line and out into the sea, we showcased a design for underwater kite turbines that harvest energy from ocean waves, and we were wowed by 0 Kinetura’s shape-shifting Kinetower 0 . In other architecture news, construction finally commenced on MVRDV’s massive 1 Amanora Vertical City Apartments 1 in Pune, India — a mixed use development totaling over 4.3 million square feet.
We also saw several new developments at the solar energy front – scientists within the Uk are engaged on a 2 solar-powered kit 2 that may lighten the burden of soldiers-and, more important, increase their mobility-by as much as 50 percent. That feels like the right complement to OS’ amazing 3 GSR 110B 3 – a retractable solar energy system that delivers 40 watts instantaneous with a combined solar and battery backup. Lightweight and straightforward to pack, the solar unit is definitely deployed in emergency situations so long as the elements permits.
