Aldebaran to create all-terrain disaster relief robots, make a hero of Nao?

We’ve seen Nao bust a move and play a touch footy , and now its creator is planning to take its bots off-roading within the name of disaster relief. Aldebaran robotics recently announced its intention to speculate in and develop a number of robots which may traverse rocky roads to assist in hazardous situations, citing the tsunami in Japan as a catalyst for the move. The corporate’s yet to state the way it will make this happen, but says it’s already made contributions to Cap Robotique, the “French cluster devoted to the advance and innovation inside the field of service robotics.” In case you ask us, we’re eager about Nao gettin’ a touch dirt under its nails, so long as it is able to still serve Fosse . ALDEBARAN Robotics to develop all-terrain robots to help in
hazardous situations

(March 18, 2011 – Paris) While the ease from robots assisting
humans in hazardous situations, similar to following the hot tsunami
in Japan, is well known and favourite, the few solutions
which do exist are very limited. It can be therefore that ALDEBARAN
Robotics has decided to develop and spend money on a variety of robots able
to intervene in hazardous situations.

“At this moment there’s a veritable need for robots for our Japanese
partners. ALDEBARAN Robotics is the arena leader in humanoid robots
which might be capable of walk; however we’re unable to assist. Our robots are
designed for research, education and private assistance and never made
for such difficult situations. Following recent events i’ve got decided
to right away put money into the event of all-terrain walking robots
capable of help in these kinds of situations,” said Bruno Maisonnier,
CEO and founding father of ALDEBARAN Robotics.

The robotics industry continues to grow because of technology advances,
mecatronics, man-machine interaction, artificial intelligence,
geolocalization – all of that is resulting in new applications for
robots and paving the manner for a vital marketplace for personal
assistant robots.

ALDEBARAN Robotics is the inventor of NAO, a 58cm humanoid robot with
the power to determine, hear, speak and communicate not just with its user
but other NAO robots. Today greater than 1,300 NAO robots are utilized in 40
countries internationally as a platform for research and education in
order to explore new applications equivalent to a treatment for autistic
children or as a pedagogic tool for teachers. Currently, a second
humanoid robot, ROMEO, with a height of one meter 40 centimeters is
being finalized.

“Robots for the well-being of humans is the mission of ALDEBARAN
Robotics and the desire for one of these robot requires the expertise of
many actors. We have got thus contributed to the creation of Cap
Robotique, THE French cluster devoted to the event and
innovation within the field of service robotics, a market which represents
$3.3B in 2010 and we shall be very present on the upcoming InnoRobo
exhibition in Lyon, France from March 23-25, 2011,” he added.
