Skype for Android at risk of hack that compromises personal info

Should you didn’t have already got enough potential app privacy leaks to fret about, here’s one other — Android Police discovered that that Skype’s Android client leaves your individual data wide open to assault. The publication reports that the app has SQLite3 databases where all of your info and chat logs are stored, and that Skype forgot to encrypt the files or enforce permissions, which seems a choice reminiscent of leaving keys hanging out of the door.

Basically, meaning a rogue app could grab all of your data and get in touch with home — an app similar to Skypwned. That’s a test program Android Police built to prove the vulnerability exists, and boy, oh boy does it work — despite only requesting basic Android storage and speak to permissions, it instantly displayed our full name, phone number, email addresses and an inventory of all our contacts without requiring lots as a username to figure it out. Android Police says Skype is investigating the problem now, but when you desire to give the VoIP company an additional little push we’re sure it couldn’t hurt.
