iOS 5 updates expected to be carried over-the-air, at the least for the Verizon iPhone

Having spent an awesome component of our day yesterday negotiating with iTunes and downloading a whopping 666.2MB file to update our iPhone to version 4.3.3 — a version, we would add, whose sole claim to fame is the removal of factors — we all know well the trials of updating Apple’s mobile software. Those aches, however, may soon be coming to an end. 9to5Mac has multiple sources informing it that Apple and Verizon are scheming to begin delivering iOS updates over the air from this autumn, or simply once iOS 5 is made available. Untethered OS updates are a well-known feature to users of different smartphone operating systems or even the iOS-infused Apple TV , but getting Apple’s mobile devices modern has to date always required facing the company’s own cable and software.

There is no reason to believe this wireless update feature may be limited to Verizon, mind you — that’s just where the informants are coming from on this instance — though Apple will most certainly should alter the file sizes of its updates. We cannot bring to mind many carriers who’ll be at liberty to push greater than half a gigabyte of information per user per update. Additionally, since iTunes currently acts because the major backup hub, 9to5Mac speculates Cupertino have to be engaged on a cloud backup service besides, which might seem a particularly sensible idea. Needless to say, that does not paint a really happy or busy future for iTunes, but so what?
