Oh Google, you didn’t think you were going to have each of the mobile payment fun did you? If you are beta testing in Long island and San Francisco some big names around the pond want to dominate the complete UK. Vodafone, Telefonica, and Everything Everywhere (a three way partnership between Orange and T-Mobile) are combining forces to create a mobile payment and marketing system so that you can tackle Google Wallet and gives before they even get off the floor within the British isles. The platform might be open to all comers, including Google, (you realize, in case it decides to make Wallet a US only affair) and the firms have pledged to maintain customer data out of the hands of third parties. The project continues to be within the very early stages of development, however the mobile providers aren’t dilly dallying — they expect their efforts to bear NFC fruit before the top of the year.
