Panasonic’s Viera Connect developer portal opens to eager TV app creators

Panasonic has already lured some big names to its Viera Connect platform, like MLB and Hulu, now the corporate is opening as much as smaller devs who desire to see their creations blown up for the massive screen without the help of additional hardware. The SDK went live back in January, but now the corporate is providing a simple path from creation to release for its smart TV ecosystem. Obviously, Panasonic still maintains final control over what apps make it to the Viera market, but expect new games and streaming video sources to start out taking drugs soon. Panasonic Launches Developer Portal for its VIERA Connect Platform

OSAKA, Japan–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Panasonic Corporation announced today the launch of VIERA Connect Developers (http://developer.vieraconnect.com), a public web portal, to ask IPTV application developers to jot down applications for its VIERA Connect cloud-based TV service. The brand new portal allows developers to milk quick response and rich multimedia HD expression capabilities of its VIERA Connect platform. Applications built for the platform could be deployed* in VIERA Connect, which has become available worldwide from this spring.
* Only applications meeting specification approval criteria would be made available at the VIERA Connect service (For further details, please confer with the VIERA Connect Developers website)

VIERA Connect provides viewers with a large line up of applications which run on Panasonic’s cutting-edge Application Execution Engine developed with following features which complement TV viewing experience:

Cloud-based IPTV service – where applications exists inside the cloud, little need to download them at the TV
Fast startup and ultra-quick response which gives seamless screen transitions on full HD TV
Rich multimedia expression using three dimensional graphic technology

The newly launched VIERA Connect Developers will use market leading streamlined processes to enhance time to marketplace for application developers and media companies. The portal site hosted by Accedo Partner Programs on behalf of Panasonic will further expand the collection of attractive applications for VIERA Connect by providing access to VIERA Connect’s application program interface (API), technical information, reference code and other assistance required to develop VIERA Connect applications. Subsequently, VIERA Connect will provide TV viewers attractive content and experiences that fully utilize the massive-screen VIERA HDTV.

VIERA Connect, that’s available in approximately 100 countries around the globe since spring this year, offers quite a lot of applications, akin to video-on-demand services, music, sports, games, health and fitness, to fulfill the wishes unique to every market. By launching this site, Panasonic will significantly expand its lineup of innovative applications and may provide new TV viewing experience and entertainment of their living rooms.
