To many, a colt is a representation of rebirth and an emblem for youthfulness. Research in Motion seems to be in desperate need for exactly that — a regeneration. It sort of feels appropriate, then, that RIM could be launching the BlackBerry Colt, its first QNX-based “superphone,” within the first quarter of 2012. This timeline will make sure the device launches on the expected time, in line with rumors by BGR, but there’s prone to be a couple of compromises to make sure it gets pushed out to market faster. The Colt is alleged to be undergoing internal testing with a single-core chip , contrary to promises of including dual-core CPUs. Additionally, the maiden voyage of the smartphone platform should be completely without BES on the device’s launch; it’s taken longer than expected to rewrite the correct code to support QNX, and more time’s essential to bring it as much as par with RIM’s standards. What would the Enterprise customers do meanwhile? The other to BES is nearly unthinkable: Exchange emails will be accessed by a preloaded version of Microsoft ActiveSync . Will the gamble yield greater returns ultimately, or will it remove the glue that also holds the corporate together?
