By most accounts, the 3DS hasn’t quite been the runaway success that Nintendo was banking on. The corporate attempted to handle the lukewarm response with a major price drop and an accompanying public apology . Now plainly much more drastic measures can be within the works. French site 01net, which has hit past gaming rumors squarely at the head, is reporting that Nintendo is operating on a $10 analog joystick add-on so one can snap onto the portable console. That revelation poses a wide variety of questions, like how the system would be capable of close with the controller in place and whether 3DS users will really take to this type of thing. Much more interesting is the rumor that the corporate is operating on a redesigned system for 2012, which, among other things, will pull one of the crucial focus clear of the 3D functionality that was so central to Nintendo’s pitch when the device first launched. Per the rumor, that distancing from the 3D functionality can also be reflected within the name of the recent model.
