It usually bears repeating that simply because a corporation applies for a patent doesn’t suggest the item will ever see the sunshine of day as a true product. But really, it is the outlandishness that makes this stuff so fun sometimes. The decidedly clunkily named “Obfuscating the Display of knowledge and Removing the Obfuscation Using a Filter” details a technology for obscuring information on an electronic device via the addition of “artifacts” or the manipulation of the display’s “color, frequency or polarity.” Aspects may be obscured by different methods collectively, in order that different information would be blocked for individual users all observing an identical display. Also interesting is using a filter to decode the data — something like a couple of glasses coming between the user and the device, which might be detected by the device itself. Not an extraordinarily Apple-like addition, but hey, you never know. Sometimes the future’s so bright you gotta wear shades .
