‘Phantom sensation’ haptic tech recreates the sensation of having virtually stabbed

With regards to gaming, the more realistic the higher, right? Sure, it is all fun until we commence talking about being virtually sliced with a battle axe or pelted with a rocket launcher — precisely the idea behind a brand new technology dubbed “phantom sensation.” Researchers on the University of Electro-Communications know that to virtually recreate the sensation of touch , they must apply vibrations to 2 points of skin. Taking the basis one step further, they applied the stimuli to each side of the body to imitate what it’d feel like if the item actually gone through. Using a tweaked Wii , as an item inside the game travels in the course of the player’s hand, the tip sensor vibrates intensely initially, then subsides to zero. At this point, the base probe kicks in, going from zero to strong until the thing is cleared — leaving the player feeling slightly violated and virtually gored. Look into the (relatively) painless demonstration video after the break.
