RIM offers free apps to make up for that whole BlackBerry outage thing

RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis has already apologized for last week’s widespread BlackBerry outage , but apparently, that wasn’t enough. Today, the manufacturer announced that it’s offering customers an entire slate of “premium apps” totally free, inside the hopes of earning back among the goodwill it lost following that mysterious blackout. In a press release, the corporate said the gesture is “an expression of appreciation” for the patience that many BlackBerry users demonstrated in the course of the incident, with Lazaridis adding that his company remains “committed to providing the high standard of reliability” that customers have come to expect. For now, the company’s offering a complete of 12 apps (collectively worth around $100), including SIMS 3, iSpeech Translator Pro and Shazam Encore among others, though more can be added at a later date. The offer kicks off on Wednesday and may last for a month, so head past the break to peer which goodies are up for grabs.

Research In Motion Offers Free Premium Apps to Customers Following Service Interruptions

Waterloo, ON – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) announced today that a variety of premium apps worth a complete value of greater than US $100 may be offered totally free to subscribers as an expression of appreciation for his or her patience throughout the recent service disruptions. The apps would be made available to customers over the approaching weeks on BlackBerry® App World™ and should remain available until December 31, 2011.*

“Our global network supports the communications needs of greater than 70 million customers,” said RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis. “We truly appreciate and cost our relationship with our customers. We’ve worked hard to earn their trust during the last 12 years, and we’re committed to providing the high standard of reliability they expect, today and one day.”

The whole number of premium apps turns into available to download at BlackBerry App World over a period of 4 weeks beginning Wednesday, October 19th. The choices over this era will include the next (with more to return):

RIM’s enterprise customers can also be offered one month of free Technical Support. Current customers would be offered a complimentary one month extension in their existing Technical Support contract, and customers who don’t currently have a Technical Support contract can be offered a one month trial of RIM’s BlackBerry Technical Support Services – Enhanced Support, for free.
