MetroPCS can be top contender for AT&T’s post-acquisition assets

The possibility of a successful acquisition of T-Mobile by AT&T may largely depend upon what the latter is willing to surrender. The most important GSM carrier within the US may wish to throw a number of assets overboard that will satisfy the dep. of Justice, and has reportedly been Rethinking Possible by accomplishing discussions with several parties focused on scooping up the leftovers. In accordance with Bloomberg, MetroPCS seems to be the frontrunner inside the talks, and plans to satisfy with the Justice Department (alongside AT&T, after all ) inside the next two weeks to figure out if the method will appease the regulating body. No guarantees here, without a doubt : it sort of feels like a number of assets would need to change hands for MetroPCS — a regional carrier with roughly nine million subscribers — to be considered an oversized enough competitor to soothe the government’s concerns here. We will not imagine the Feds will be satisfied with any small offering, considering the Department’s filed a lawsuit against Ma Bell to dam the merger. We’ve a sense this saga is simply beginning to get real interesting, so stay tuned.
