DirecTV debuted its iPad app in February with a powerful suite of handheld remote control and content browsing options, but one of many few missing features was the power to observe TV on it, which has now been added. Like similar apps from Cablevision and Time Warner Cable , v1.3.1 adds the power to look at 38 channels survive the tablet, provided you’re connected to the identical home network as your DirecTV Plus HD DVR. That home restriction, and its ability to just access live TV streams and never DVRed programming separates it from Sling’s apps , but a minimum of it’s still a free add-on. To be able to watch recorded shows or take them at the go you’ll still need the Nomad box for that.
