It seems that Samsung and Apple’s never – ending game of patent Risk is starting to draw concern from government regulators. The eu Union’s Competition Commission is investigating the companies’ various disputes out of a growing worry that the war may well be stifling competition inside the mobile market. The agency’s commissioner, Joaquin Almunia, has request details about the patents in question from both companies, though he has yet to receive a reply. Almunia was careful to indicate that here’s hardly the sole example of a possible abuse of intellectual property rights to distort the market, but with greater than 20 cases in 10 countries it’s one in all the biggest and most high profile. If the commission chooses to pursue legal action both Samsung and Apple may be fined as much as 10 percent in their annual revenue. Maybe under threat of such hefty fines, the 2 competitors will set aside their differences and in fact compete… you recognize, available to buy in preference to inside the court room.
