Amazon Kindle App For Android To Appear On Dell Streak?

It seems that the upcoming Dell Streak (Mini 5) will have a few services from Amazon preinstalled, most notably, the Kindle app. A promo picture for the Streak shows “Kindle book reader applications” amongst the list of Amazon content, as well as Amazon MP3, Amazon Video Streams, and the Amazon Store. The Kindle app is already available for Apple’s iPhone and RIM’s BlackBerry platform, so it shouldn’t be too far fetched to see the Kindle app hitting Google’s Android OS too. Would you want to read your Kindle books on a Dell Streak, or do you think that dedicated eBook readers such as Amazon’s Kindle are still the best way to read eBooks?

Turn Your MSI Wind Netbook Into An iPad

Can’t wait for Apple’s iPad to ship to your doorstep? Well, if you have a MSI Wind and a bunch of technical know-how, not to mention a ruthless streak that will allow you to gut your netbook, you should be able to come up with your own frakentablet using your MSI Wind. Someone over at the MSI Wind fansite, Insanely Wind, has removed the keyboard and popped a touchscreen display to the bottom half of the MSI Wind and turned in into some sort of tablet device. Add in a hackintosh build of OS X, and you’ve got something resembling an iPad, but with a whole lot more storage space, faster speed, VGA output, webcam, USB ports, and a built-in card reader. Not too shabby eh?

16-port USB hub is a little more tasteful than those other ones
When 10 hubs is just too few, and 24 is a few too many, and 80 is way too many… have I got the USB hub for you! They just added these things to stock at ThinkGeek, and unlike the other hubs we’ve seen recently, this one actually looks pretty nice. It’s got kind of an Apple vibe, but obviously still ran run with the PC big boys on sheer geekiness.
Wind U100 magically modded into tablet-thing, iPad UI along for the ride
Are you desperate for an iPad-like device, short on cash, and long on the desire to completely jack up your netbook? Well you’re in luck, friend, as the proprietor of MSI Wind fansite Insanely Wind has crafted a device which may satiate your tablety desires. By taking a U100, removing the keyboard, relocating a touchscreen display to the bottom half of the unit, and doing some simple rewiring, user alexbates has fashioned a tablet which he says bests a device like the iPad or JooJoo with “10 times the storage, twice the speed, external video (VGA), webcam, USB ports, and built-in multi card reader.” Of course, as you can tell by the photos, this mod has a ways to go before it’s got the fit and finish of the aforementioned devices, and you’ll have rev up a compatible, hackintosh build of OS X to make it appropriately Apple-ish — but it can clearly be done. While this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this type of modification, it’s nice to see the love spreading to various devices (and done in a fashion that doesn’t seem overly complicated). From the sounds of things, this project hasn’t hit its zenith yet, so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for a more complete variation of the Windlet (our name). For now, hit the read link and keep up with the unfolding saga.
[Thanks, MistaBishi]

iPad sales estimated to top 120,000 on first day
Whether the bloggers like it or not, it’s looking like the iPad is a hit. Initial estimates show that over 120,000 iPads were pre-ordered on friday, according to Investor Village. Some estimates showed roughly 50,000 devices ordered in the first two hours.
The numbers say some very interesting things about exactly which iPads were purchased as [...]
Spiderpodium iPhone Holder Looks Creepy

We’ve already seen many different cradles for Apple’s iPhone, but you have to admit that the Spiderpodium does seem to stand out from the others, not least because it has eight bendable spider-like legs. You’ll be able to bend the legs to hold up your iPhone on various surfaces, probably even the handlebars of your bike, not that we’re advocating you fiddle with your iPhone while riding it. The Spiderpodium is currently up for preorder for £14.99 ($23 USD) and it will be available on March 29th.

Sony opens idyllic new retail store in Nagoya, Japan
We heard back in January that Sony was looking to reface itself somewhat by introducing a minty fresh retail look that takes a note or two from the Apple and Microsoft shops already in existence, and for those lucky enough to find themselves in Nagoya this weekend, you can check it out in person. March 13th marked the opening of the all new Sony Store Nagoya, and with an ample of amount of glass, white demo stands and black overhead signs, it’s certainly one of the more seductive retail shops that we’ve seen. We’d bother knocking Sony for following instead of leading, but considering just how far the brand has fallen over the past couple of years, we’re just stoked to see it putting forth an effort to turn things around.

Dead iPad battery? Never mind replacing it, Apple just sends another iPad for $99
Whoa, Nelly! Isn’t this something? Apple has just posted details on its iPad battery replacement service, which is really not a battery replacement service at all. Check out the company’s opening line:
“If your iPad requires service due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee.”
Now, let’s compare that to the verbiage found in the iPhone’s battery replacement program details:
“If your iPhone requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will service your iPhone for a service fee.”
We can see the puzzled look on your face from here, and we’re sharing in the same disbelief. Apple is actually saying that it won’t bother cracking open your withered iPad, replacing the battery and sending it back your way; instead, you’ll pay $105.95 (including shipping) for a completely different iPad, which certainly has its pros and cons. On one hand, you’re getting a new (or potentially refurbished, actually) iPad in around “one week,” but on the other, you’ll be waving goodbye to every morsel of personal data on the device that you send in — unless you backup beforehand, of course. Here’s Apple’s take on answering “will the data on my iPad be preserved?”
“No. You will receive a replacement iPad that will not contain any of your personal data. Before you submit your iPad for service, it is important to sync your iPad with iTunes to back up your contacts, calendars, email account settings, bookmarks, apps, etc. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information when servicing your iPad.”
Lovely, don’tcha think? Head on past the break for the full text.
[Thanks, David]

Unconfirmed: Apple Sells 90,000 iPads On The First Day Of Pre-order?

While these figures are far from official figures by Apple, it’s still very interesting to take a peek at what some people have analyzed over the latest Apple iPad pre-orders. It seems that, based on the order numbers from purchases, and taking into account the 15,000 online orders that come in a typical day, the fruity company has managed to snag about 91,000 iPad pre-orders in just six hours, which is certainly an amazing feat. It still remains to see how successful Apple’s iPad will be in the long run, but if the pre-order numbers are anything to go by, Apple certainly has something good on its hands.

Diamond iPad: You Knew It Was Coming

Considering the trend of cramming diamonds into Apple products, nobody should be surprised to see a Diamond iPad show up on the Internet, much less from Goldstriker, the company which came up with the gold-plated iPod nano and Diamond iPhone 3G. This $19,999 iPad sports a diamond studded frame featuring 11.43 carats of diamonds, hand-set in a micro-pave styling. You’re currently able to place your order online to reserve one, so there’s nothing but your wallet and common sense to stop you from placing an order now.

Make your Magic Mouse oh-so-ergonomic with this pasty silicone grip
While it’s hard to say if Apple’s Magic Mouse really needs “fixing” — it depends somewhat on your grip — it’s not a huge stretch to say that the slender multitouch device doesn’t quite fit in the palm of one’s hand. Sensing a market opportunity, Will of MMFixed.com recently decided to come to our collective rescue. For $10, he offers a simple silicone block that matches the mouse’s contoured surface nicely, with an integrated suction cup that keeps it securely fastened. While it’s not quite a one-size-fits-all solution, it’s certainly a lot cheaper than buying one of the new whacky, adjustable mice we’ve seen recently; and if the idea of ergonomics via marshmallow doesn’t appeal to you, you can always try the white bread variety. Video after the break.

Wanna read Kindle books on your iPad? Of course you do~! UPDATE
All the Apple marks are excited about the iPad. Not me, but whatever. What I am excited about, though, is seeing consumers use the items they’ve bought in the manner of their choosing. Say you’ve bought a bunch of books from the Amazon Kindle store. (Don’t tell Devin!) Those books are only “supposed” to work with the Kindle and the various Kindle readers, but with a bit of work you can read them wherever you want—yes, including on your iPad.
