PlayStation Move will offer limited four player support

By Vladislav Savov

So you do your research, you read up on everything important about the PS3’s new Move controller, and you consider yourself well prepared for a future of wild merrymaking and multiplayer gaming parties. And then you find out you can’t use four full sets of controllers with your console. As it turns out, the PS3’s Bluetooth module is only fit to address up to seven wireless devices at a time, which poses something of a puzzler when you consider that you need a pair of Move controllers (or a Move plus a sub-controller) to get your money’s worth and four times two is, well, a number greater than seven. Perturbed by this, Gizmodo contacted Sony for an official response and the news gets even worse:

“Four PlayStation Move controllers can connect to a PS3 at one time (or two PlayStation Move Controllers and 2 PlayStation Move sub-controllers).”

That basically means you can have the full Move experience with only one friend, or you can share out the wands and have that tiny bit less fun with a quartet. Not a problem for the misanthropes out there — or most people really — but an important limitation to be aware of, nonetheless.

KT To Offer The LG KH5200 Andro-1 In Korea

If you think that the LG KH5200 Andro-1 phone looks rather familiar, you’re right, as it seems that this phone is a rebadged version of the LG GW620 that we’ve seen before. The KH5200 will be launching in Korea via KT as soon as next week, and should be going for about 600,000 won ($531). It the rumors are true, the KH5200 will become KT’s first smartphone that will be offered for free on contract. Specifications of the LG KH5200 Andro-1 should include:

  • Slide-out QWERTY keyboard
  • 5-megapixel camera
  • Bluetooth
  • 3-inch 320 x 480 resolution display

Bluetooth Access Point brings text messaging, voice messaging, email to the friendly skies

By Joseph L. Flatley

Whether you covet your Irish friends’ ability to make in-flight cellphone calls or value your aerial naps too much to care either way, you must admit that the promise of in-flight SMS, MMS, voice messaging, and text email is tantalizing. To this end, the kids at Asiq have announced a little something called the Bluetooth Access Point. This device uses the aircraft’s satellite link to send data to your respective carrier, eliminates the need for a picocell, and boasts up to 3Mb/s speeds. Now let’s see how quickly this bad boy gets approved for use! (Or not.) PR after the break.

Screen Grabs: the Marriage Ref trots out an iPad for all its 11 viewers

By Joseph L. Flatley
Critics may have called The Marriage Ref everything from “painfully bad” to an “ugly, unfunny, patronizing mess,” but how would we know? We couldn’t find an Engadget editor who would fess up to DVRing the thing. In fact, when we received these screen shots from an eagle-eyed reader, we had to Google it to find out what he was talking about! And here we have it: either this cookie sheet has Bluetooth, or this is an iPad complete with Magic Mouse and wireless keyboard. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re switching back to the Lifetime network to see if we can spot ourselves a JooJoo.

[Thanks, Doug Warner]

Samsung SHW-M120S to be first Android phone with Bluetooth 3.0?

By Chris Ziegler

Samsung’s all about records: firsts, biggests, smallests, thinnests, you get the idea. Indeed, it was just a few weeks ago that the company managed to slip the very first Bluetooth 3.0 certified handset through — but these guys never rest, and it looks like they’re already prepping to follow up that feat by throwing Android into the mix. The Bluetooth SIG is showing certification for an SHW-M120S model that apparently features a 3.3-inch WVGA AMOLED display, 5 megapixel autofocus primary cam plus VGA secondary, WiFi, GPS, HSDPA, and — yes, you guessed it — a Bluetooth Core Version of 3.0, meaning you’ll likely be able to fling files around to your house full of Bluetooth 3.0-capable devices with the greatest of ease. The presence of a T-DMB tuner means this sucker is targeted squarely at the South Korean market, but we’ve no doubt Sammy plans on taking 3.0 global so that it can… you know, have the world’s most Bluetooth 3.0 devices. PuntoCellulare seems to have a pretty good shot of it, and it looks pretty much how you’d expect any self-respecting Samsung smartphone to look in 2010 — in other words, there’s nothing that screams “I can wirelessly transfer data short distances at heretofore-unknown speeds” just by looking at it, and that’s totally fine by us. Rumor is we’ll see this launch “in the next few weeks.”

[Thanks, juanvaldez]

Update: Turns out PuntoCellulare just recycled a shot of the M100S, so we don’t yet know what the M120S will look like; the screen’s a bit smaller on this new model, for one thing, so we should be dealing with a more diminutive shell.

Samsung Beat R1 now priced

By Ubergizmo
Samsung Beat R1 now priced

Samsung has priced their Beat R1 portable media player as it comes in two capacities – 8GB and 16GB, where they are going for $149.99 and $179.99, respectively. Measuring a mere 8.9mm thin while tipping the scales at 50 grams, the R1 is smaller than a credit card while cramming in a 2.6? LCD touchscreen display (now how about that!), an integrated FM radio and recorder, Bluetooth connectivity as well as enough juice to last for up to 50 hours for audio playback or 4 hours for video. Other features include DivX support for video files, as well as Samsung’s fantastic Digital Natural Sound Engine (DNSe) 3.0 sound enhancement technology. You can pick up the R1 in pink, black and silver colors.

Samsung SHW-M120S has Bluetooth 3.0

By Ubergizmo

Samsung SHW-M120S has Bluetooth 3.0

Samsung aims to get another feather in their illustrious cap with the Android-powered SHW-M120S being one of the first of such phones to sport Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity. While the display has dropped to 3.3″, it ought to work just great thanks to a Super AMOLED display. Apart from the highlight that is Bluetooth 3.0, other specifications include 3G connectivity, a 5-megapixel camera, a front facing VGA camera, Wi-Fi support, GPS navigation, an accelerometer and proximity sensor.

Asus Eee PC 1201T for the French

Asus Eee PC 1201T for the French

Our French friends will be able to get their hands on the Asus Eee PC 1201T, where it comes with a 12″ display at 1,366 x 768 resolution, a RS780MN chipset, an AMD Neo MV-40 1.6GHz processor, 2GB RAM, ATi’s Mobility Radeon HD3200 chipset, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity. Too bad it has a mere 5-hour battery life that most folks would shun considering netbooks these days tend to last longer than that.

Music Planet waterproof speaker ball makes bath time more melodic

By Darren Murph

Remember that waterproof Bluetooth speaker that you picked up last summer after none other than Billy Corgan endorsed it? Here’s comes round two. Available exclusively in the Land of the Rising Sun (surprised?), the Music Planet speaker ball is IPX7-certified to shrug off water damage for up to 30 minutes at a depth of one meter, and it’s designed so that the speaker itself sits just above the water line. Internally, you’ll find an FM radio tuner, an SD / SDHC card slot for loading up MP3 files, a USB socket (good luck with that non-waterproof thumb drive) and an alarm clock. You know, in case you fall asleep underneath two feet of soapy water. Power comes from six AA cells, which provides enough juice for 13 straight hours of your own jams or 28 hours of whatever’s on the radio; it’s up for order right now at ¥10,500 ($117), but sadly, no fancy shower gels are bundled in. Opportunity, missed.

Bluetooth access point for aircraft from ASIQ

By Ubergizmo
Bluetooth access point for aircraft from ASIQ

ASIQ has recently unveiled a brand new Bluetooth access point for aircraft, allowing airlines to enable passengers to access a cheaper communications method compared to Wi-Fi. This access point will play nice with the following messaging services – SMS, MMS, voice messaging, text and email, letting cellphone users utilize such modes of communication without having to connect to a Wi-Fi network. It will cost around $10,000 to outfit this Bluetooth access point in each aircraft, which is 10 times cheaper than what it costs compared to Wi-Fi systems. We look forward to Q2 2010 for the first outfitting.
