Google halting Nexus One sales through official store after current inventory depleted

We knew this was eventually coming, and here it is: Google is giving everyone the heads-up that it just got a fresh batch of Nexus Ones in stock, and once they've been sold through, they'll no longer be offered directly through the company's online store. For what it's worth, the customer service lines will stay ...

Rogers Wireless offers BlackBerry Bold 9700 for nothing in Canada

Rogers Wireless of Canada is offering the BlackBerry Bold 9700 for free, according to the placard you see here, although you will need to agree to a 3-year agreement in the first place. We have no idea on whether this price drop is a momentary one, or will it be a permanent move? If the answer is the latter, then it could mean Rogers is looking to clear its inventory to bring in an updated Bold device sometime in the near future. If you’re living in the Great White North and want a functional handset for the next three years while saving some dough, then this could very well be the deal for you.

Verizon’s Droid Eris goes on permanent vacation

By Dan A.

You might have figured that the recent update to Android 2.1 would’ve given Verizon’s Droid Eris a few months of additional shelf life, but alas, it was not to be; the phone is no longer available from Verizon’s online store, and we’d assume that any remaining inventory in the field will dwindle to nothingness in the coming weeks. If anything, it seems like the device — basically a tweaked Hero — would be able to effectively soldier on indefinitely for $50 or so on contract, but maybe the carrier’s intent on keeping Android a higher-end affair for the time being. And hey, with the Droid X and Droid 2 coming any week now, we suppose it’s getting pretty crowded anyhow. Ultra-cheap original Droid, anyone?

Barnes & Noble NOOK Wi-Fi Goes Official

Looks like the NOOK Wi-Fi inventory picture that was leaked recently was right on the money, as Barnes & Noble has made the NOOK Wi-Fi official, offering its e-book reader that offers a 6-inch e-paper display, 3.5-inch color touchscreen and other features such as e-book lending and web browsing. It’ll be priced quite attractively at $149, and the original NOOK had seen its price slashed from $259 to $199, and it’ll offer the additional benefit of 3G access. Aside from the new e-book reader, Barnes & Noble has also rolled out the 1.4 firmware update for both devices, offering free AT&T access, a Go To Page feature, a very large font and faster book loading times. You can manually install the update yourself, or you’ll get it automatically this week over Wi-Fi. Will the price drop encourage you to pick up the NOOK over Amazon’s Kindle or Apple’s iPad?

Best Buy’s iPhone 4 inventory plans revealed by another purported leak

By Dan A.

Seriously, can’t we keep any mystery in our lives anymore? After we saw what’s purported to be Best Buy’s “playbook” for the iPhone 4 debut yesterday, today we’re being treated to an inventory list revealing the stock ordered up from Apple for the big retailer’s launch of the new handset. Black 16GB variants of the iPhone 4 dominate, with up to 70 per store, but the leak also includes smaller orders for the white 32GB units as well. None of these are in stock yet, mind you, and that playbook did serve up some confusing messages as to whether Best Buy will have any unreserved iPhones to sell at all on launch day. Still, at least you’ll now have a better idea of which locations stand the best chance of dishing out some of that Apple pie you crave so much.

AT&T: iPhone 4 Pre-Order Sales Were Ten Times Higher Than First Day 3GS Sales

By Dan A.

AT&T just issued a statement addressing the massive iPhone 4 pre-order sales yesterday. The company said that sales of the iPhone 4 were 10-times higher than the first day of pre-ordering for the iPhone 3G S last year.

AT&T also said that they are suspending pre-ordering today in order to fulfill the orders they’ve already received. At&T wil resume taking pre-orders when they get more inventory from Apple. Yesterday’s chaos also brought more than 13 million visits to AT&T’s website to determine if users were able to upgrade to the new phone, which was about 3-times higher than the previous record for eligibility upgrade checks in one day.

AT&T suspends iPhone 4 pre-orders altogether, says they were ten times 3GS’ numbers

By Dan A.

AT&T just kicked things up another notch, going from a launch day pre-order sellout for the iPhone 4 to… well, a total pre-order sellout. The carrier has announced this morning that it’s “suspending pre-ordering today in order to fulfill the orders we’ve already received,” saying only that it will resume the pre-order process when it can wrap its brain around the “additional inventory” it’ll have on hand. It’s hard to gauge where this lies on the truth / hype meter, but for what it’s worth, they’re saying that pre-orders outstripped the 3GS by a factor of ten, and eligibility checks were three times higher than the previous one-day record. Or… you know, maybe they just don’t want any more information falling into the wrong hands until they can figure things out. Follow the break for AT&T’s full statement.

Sprint fires employee who leaked weak EVO 4G sales numbers

By Dan A.

You know the backstory by now: Sprint boasted that the EVO 4G was its fastest selling phone ever a couple of days after hitting the American market, before abruptly correcting itself and admitting that the EVO’s sales were in fact in line with those achieved by the Pre last summer. What you, and we, didn’t know till now, however, is that Sprint’s self-correction was sparked off by an employee with a curious mind and posting privileges over on the xda-developers forum. On June 6, according to MobileCrunch, this unnamed hero of truthiness browsed Sprint’s internal inventory system and nailed down a figure of 65,500 sold units from Sprint’s own stores — a stat far south from what Sprint would announce a day later. That number ultimately found its way onto the message board, and though it obviously shouldn’t be taken as authoritative (or exhaustive), it was enough to get Sprint to hit the auto-correct button and part ways with the activist member of staff. Harsh.

[Thanks, Carol]

Details Of Motorola Droid X Surface

Motorola seems to be having a little trouble keeping the details of its unannounced cell phones under wraps recently, though to be fair, Apple has been having the same problem too. Next up we have screenshots of inventory systems giving us some details on the upcoming Motorola Droid X (as listed in the system). From the looks of it, the Droid X will sport a 4.3-inch 480 x 854 pixel display, and weigh 5.47 oz. Hopefully we’ll see Verizon announce those upcoming Motorola phones sooner rather than later.
