NOVO Coloured Glaze HTPC refracts us into the next century

Sure, the massive clear block at the front of this Coloured Glaze HTPC from NOVO is completely pointless, but it also does the remarkable task of making a boring hunk of plastic powered by Intel Atom and NVIDIA Ion into an object of minimalist desire. Our colleagues at Engadget Chinese recently got their hands on one of these nettops, which were initially shown off at CES, and managed to plug it in and power it on in the midst of photographing its beauty from every angle. Hit up the source link for pics galore.

Acer Aspire One 532G really canned

Looks like the Acer Aspire One 532G is confirmed to not make its way Stateside, with Amazon recently removing the product page. This is a shame, since it is a netbook which sports the NVIDIA ION 2 chipset that will definitely go down well with folks who want that extra graphical oomph on a netbook, and with a pre-order price of $399.99, it will sit well with most people even in such economically trying times. Those of you out there who placed a pre-order, you would be better off in looking elsewhere for a new netbook.

ASUS Lamborghini VX6 to hit the US this September
The ASUS Lamborghini VX6 looks set to make a splash in the netbook market this coming September, offering specifications that tend to lean more towards the higher end instead of the usual. Tipping the scales at just 1.5kg, it is slightly heavier than a standard netbook but that is largely due to its 12.1? display which boasts 1,366 x 768 resolution, letting you watchHD movies on it (albeit at 720p and not full HD). An Intel Atom D525 processor powers the VX6, while an NVIDIA ION 2 graphics chipset with 512MB of DDR3 VRAM ensures smooth delivery of graphics all the time, helping the netbook live up to its Lamborghini association. Other hardware specifications are available in the extended post, where we hope to get hold of pricing details in due time.

Shuttle X350 ups the ante for slim mini PCs

Shuttle’s X350 is said to set the benchmark when it comes to high performance mini PCs which don’t take up too much space on your desk or workspace at all. Measuring Being smaller than its predecessors, it is no pushover when it comes to performance, measuring a mere 1.5″ thin that lets you mount it behind a flat panel display. Apart from that, the X350 will run silently since it has no cooling fans to speak of. Packing a dual-core Intel Atom D510 processor, you will also get an optical drive within alongside the next generation NVIDIA ION graphics chipset for full HD playback amongst others. There was no mention of pricing or a release date, but this would make for a suitable candidate if you’re looking into sprucing your living room up with a Home Theater PC. [Press Release]

ASUS Eee PC 1201PN with NVIDIA Ion now available at an Amazon.com near you

Well, what do you know? Just a few hours after hearing the Acer Aspire One 532g with NVIDIA Ion 2 has been canceled, the Ion 2-equipped 12.1-inch ASUS Eee PC 1201PN that we’ve also been waiting on pops up for sale on Amazon.com. While we had heard this Eee wouldn’t be shipping in the US, that’s clearly not the case, and for $484.00 it’s not a bad deal either — especially considering the Eee PC 1201N started at $499. The spec rundown is exactly the same as we’ve been hearing for months — it’s got a Intel Atom N450 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive and NVIDIA GeForce 201M graphics. But don’t forget while this is technically dubbed as having “Ion 2,” it doesn’t use NVIDIA’s Optimus technology, which means the GPU is always on, and thus probably going to chew away at the battery life. The whole last part is quite a bummer, but we’re still betting some will hit the source link below and pull out the plastic. Will you?
Updated: If you’re waiting to read a review before pulling the trigger LAPTOP Mag has one up right now. Stay tuned for the official Engadget review soon.

NVIDIA Ion 2-based Acer Aspire 532g netbook canceled

Acer may have announced a handful of new netbooks this morning, but we’ve been waiting and waiting on the NVIDIA Ion 2-powered Acer Aspire One 532g. And we hate to be the bearer of this bad news, but it turns out we could be waiting forever on the 10-inch, 1080p-playing netbook. Blogeee is reporting that bugger has been canceled in France due to technical issues with NVIDIA and Acer drivers, and when we followed up with our Acer contact here in the US, we were told that the 532g would not be launched in the “upcoming back-to-school cycle.” It’s truly not looking good for the little laptop, not to mention it’s extremely disappointing not to see any other Ion 2 netbooks on the market almost five months after its launch. Well 532g, we’ll always look back on our time together at CeBIT fondly. Sniff.

Asus Eee PC 1201PN starts to ship Stateside

Asus’ latest Eee PC 1201PN netbook has started to ship at Amazon.com, where you can choose from either black or red colors, with either model going for $484 apiece. The silver model is still on pre-order though, so those who want a slightly more stately color will just have to wait until there is sufficient stock to ship out. It is notable that the 1201PN will be powered by NVIDIA’s ION chipset that brings a higher level of performance graphically despite running on a mere Atom N450 1.66GHz processor. Unfortunately, it is widely tipped that this model will lack Optimus technology, but the other specifications are slightly on the higher end side of things where netbooks are concerned including 2GB RAM, a 250GB hard drive, HDMI connectivity, Wi-Fi N connectivity and a VGA webcam. The display size also pushes the definition of netbook boundaries, sporting a 12.1″ display at 1,366 x 768 resolution. Have you placed an order for yours already?
