AT&T’s LG eXpo pico projects itself right out of stock, production problems to blame?

As Windows Mobile 6.5-based handsets go, LG’s eXpo unquestionably stands near the top of the pile thanks to its WVGA display, 1GHz Snapdragon core, and optional pico projector hump for the rear — but there’s a problem: it’s really, really hard to find. Nigh impossible, actually, especially now that AT&T has pulled it off its online store altogether (it had been showing out of stock for weeks anyway). The reason for that isn’t entirely clear — LG and AT&T are happy to cite “strong demand,” naturally, but the company that supplies the eXpo’s fingerprint sensor says there are actually some outstanding antenna problems that have the production line backlogged. So when’s it coming back? “Soon,” according to LG, but in this business we’ve seen “soon” mean anything from a few minutes to a few years, so that doesn’t mean much — and in the meantime, we’re thinking T-Mobile’s HD2 stands to eat its lunch.

LG announces availability of the X300, their fancy ultrathin laptop

What is it with the last three letters of the alphabet? Why aren’t the letters STU more popular? We have the Sony Z-series and now what amounts to the LG X-series.
Anyway, this wee laptop is only 17.5mm thick and weighs 2 pounds, which makes it considerably smaller than the Z-series. Standard specs: a 2GHz [...]

LG’s ultraslim X300 launching in Asia, Middle East and South America this month (updated)

An 11.6-inch display fit within a thickness of 17.5mm. Sure, we’re mixing up our measurement systems, but whichever way you slice it, the X300 is one extremely thin device. LG has now announced that availability in the Asian, Middle Eastern and South American markets will be forthcoming this month, though all we know on the topic of price is that it’ll “vary country-by-country.” With up to 2GB of RAM, integrated 3G, and a 128GB SSD option on tap, we’ll even forgive the inclusion of a 2GHz Menlow CPU (Atom Z550) that places the X300 closer to Sony’s VAIO X than the Core 2 Duo-driven MacBook Air that it aspires to be associated with. Check out our hands-on pics over here while we wait, hope and pray for a release on more familiar shores.

Update: We’ve now come across LG’s Korean pricing, which is set at 1,590,000 Won ($1,424).

AT&T USBConnect Turbo and Velocity are carrier’s first LG and GPS modems, respectively

Location-based services have finally melted our brains to the point where we’re completely useless without immediate and constant access to Google Maps or a reasonable facsimile — we couldn’t fold a paper map if we tried, and even if we could, we’d spend an hour looking for the pulsing blue dot. That’s why we’re so delighted to hear that AT&T has finally outed its very first GPS-enabled USB modem, the USBConnect Velocity from Option, that includes a so-called Option GPS Control Panel for injecting your whereabouts into popular services like Yahoo and Bing (Google, curiously, isn’t mentioned). The other newbie to the lineup is the USBConnect Turbo — AT&T’s very first modem from LG — with an “ergonomic design” and versatile connector for even the most awkward ports (MacBook, we’re looking straight at you). Both devices will be available on the 7th of the month; the Turbo will be free on contract after rebate while the Velocity comes in at $29.99.

Redesigned LG Watch Phone caught showing off shapely figure in Brazil

LG’s £500 ($800) GD910 Watch Phone made quite an impression when we reviewed it late last year, but part of that impression was of a bulky, blocky thing that feels decidedly substantial on the wrist. A subtly redesigned version was spotted recently at the LG Digital Experience in Brazil, sporting a slightly more curvaceous shape and a new logo placement — up top rather than below the screen. It’s hard to tell what (if anything) else has changed, and apparently LG reps weren’t forthcoming with information, but with any luck this new version will offer a more affordable price point than its stately but spendy predecessor.

LG’s LU2300 set to challenge Samsung’s M100S for Korean Android dominance?

Eternal archrivals-to-the-death Samsung and LG have a tendency to match one another tit for tat in virtually every consumer electronic category, but for whatever reason, LG’s been far less interested in going for broke with Android over the past year — though a preoccupation with Windows Phone 7 Series is a solid guess at this point. Things may be changing, though, now that we’ve got news out of Telecoms Korea that they’re prepping a more brutal assault than the weakling GW620 could ever provide in the form of a so-called LU2300 for the domestic market (we’re assuming the actual thing will be a little more… well, “designed” than the snow-white mockup above). The site is playing up LG’s announcement that the phone will bundle a bunch of popular apps in ROM (awesome?) but the real news is the impressive spec sheet, which is said to include a Nexus One-like 1GHz Snapdragon and WVGA AMOLED display paired with Android 2.1 and a 5 megapixel cam capable of 720p video. It certainly sounds like it’s ready to give Samsung’s M100S a run for its money, but we’ll need to wait until its second quarter release to know for sure.

LG’s 15-inch 15EL9500 OLED TV sets sail for Europe, scheduled to arrive this May

We’ve had only tantalizingly brief (or is it briefly tantalizing?) chances to see LG’s glorious OLED television, but each and every time it’s left us with the feeling that our lives are poorer for not having one in our homes. Sure, that says as much about our tech addiction as it does about the 3mm-thick displays, but at least the deep-pocketed among us won’t have to wait too much longer to sate the need for 10,000,000:1 contrast ratios and 0.001ms response times. LG has announced it’ll be bringing it’s 15-inch OLED panel to Europe this May (to be swiftly followed by summer availability in the US) with a hefty MSRP sticker of €1,999 ($2,725) for the Austrian market. Nobody ever said the cutting edge was gonna be a cheap place to live.

Exclusive: First Windows Phone 7 Series partner device unveiled (with video!)

digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/microsoft/The_very_first_Windows_Phone_7_device’; Microsoft’s Aaron Woodman just pulled off a little surprise here at The Engadget Show: he brought out LG’s Windows Phone 7 Series pre-production prototype! The QWERTY slider is the first branded Windows Phone 7 Series device the world’s ever seen, and while the hardware and software are both obviously early, we can tell you a few things about it: it’s just a hair thicker than an iPhone or Nexus One, there are dedicated hardware camera, volume, and power buttons in addition to the back, home, and search buttons dictated by Windows Phone 7 Series, and we noticed a five megapixel camera with a flash on the back, along with a headphone jack. Can’t say much apart from that right now, since things are so early and everything is subject to change, but things are certainly moving along. It’s all going down on the show right now — see it on video after the break!

LG GW990 shows up on video, competes with HTC HD2 for camera’s attention

When people say the smartphone market is growing, they don’t usually mean literally, but looking at the massive popularity of HTC’s HD2 whopper, and the anticipation surrounding Dell’s Mini 5 and LG’s GW990, it’s pretty safe to say there is a market for oversized and overpowered (is there such a thing?) handsets. The Moorestown-powered GW990 has made another video appearance, this time showing off its multi-screen functionality and not altogether smooth pinch-to-zoom skills. We’re reminded this Mobile Internet Device (a title that’s inscribed on its case) will run Moblin (now known as MeeGo), before a HD2 is whipped out for a showdown between super-sized smartphones. It’s really quite a sight. After all that excitement is done, the video continues on to take a look at the forthcoming GT540 Android handset and Mini GD880, giving you all the more reason to click past the break for a viewing.

LG’s first Windows Phone 7 handset shipping as early as September

Our buds over at Engadget Chinese are just reporting back from a sitdown it had with LG Mobile in Hong Kong at a Chinese New Year event. The most tantalizing bit of truth is confirmation of that September launch date rumor for its first Windows Phone 7 Series device. However, this time LG padded the date a bit and said it would launch sometime between September and November. Of course, the only official word so far, has Windows Phone 7 launching before the “holidays,” so we’ll take what we can get. Maybe Mr. Ballmer meant Halloween?
